The bodies of a man and another unidentified person were discovered Sunday morning in a manure pile at a Gary horse farm.

A man boarding his horse at the stable spotted what he thought was a dead body and called police around 10:30 a.m., said Gary Police Cpl. Mike Barnes said.

A body was partially wrapped in plastic, and an officer spotted a foot protruding from a plastic bag in another part of the mound, which turned out to be the second body. The bodies were bloated but investigators were not sure how the people had been dead. The Lake County Coroner's Office confirmed that one body was a man but the sex of the other was unknown.

The article on FoxNews said there were also horse remains in the pile.

I wonder, if the CSI's on duty that day drew the short straw, or do they live for this stuff :th_puke:

It's not uncommon (or maybe unheard of is a better word) for farmers to compost cows, hogs and horses in manure piles. I was a little amazed at the stupidity of bagging the bodies before he/she/they buried them in there. They more or less preserved a good chunk of the evidence by doing it that way.

That was the first thing I thought too!! If the pile is "healthy" enough it will take care of all but the biggest bones; skull etc. The pile next door takes care of the old ewes and even the big rams; usually the skulls are left, maybe a big thick leg bone.

How many 6 foot tall Hispanics do you know? I'm 5'3" and most of them around here aren't any bigger than me.
