As bad as the horse market is nobody is listing any horses for sale that I would remotely want to buy...where are the deals?

Wish list:
We're QH people, no Morgans. We have on occasion got a gated horse, but I have ones I can borrow, so owning one is not necessary.  I occasionally also like a nice paint, but it's becomes an issue with the other half. PM me info on the paint...age, training and they have to have been rode and nothing over 5-6 years old. I know this other horse he's wanting to buy is going to coming home sooner than later, but looking is fun.

Modified to say I really really want a pony and a cart bad... Grin

A friend from Ill came up this past weekend to look at two quarter horses.  One was $5,000 and one was $6,800.  No deals there.  The woman also made it very clear that she doesn't care if she sells them or not which translates to no negotiating.   Shocked

No kidding! And where have all the geldings gone? I can't find a decent horse ad that doesn't turn out to be sold for less than $6000 that is a rideable, broke horse with some amount of training on it and doesn't require an "advanced" rider.

Tempted to head on down to the auction house...but everyone tells me that's a bad idea.  Sad

Well, I'm on the other side of the coin. I have a 13 yr old registered Aqha appendix that I have had for sale for quite a while now.
He's been a pony horse on the tracks in Iowa, and since 2000 was a trail horse for an older lady.
I've had 1 person come out to try him, and at that time discovered he was very herd bound and dropped his price a lot due to that reason.
Over the weekend, a guy came out to see him, but didn't "connect"; so no sale.
What does it take to sell a decent horse nowdays?

How big and what does he do? I'm looking for an English horse, but I think that's more of a minority on this board.

He's about 15.1 hands, and built like a tank.
I don't know what all he's had for training - I bought in in October from the neighbor when they were moving to Fl, and didn't want to make a second trip to get him - they did take their 5 paints. He took care of the older lady, and is a sweety on the ground.

Your answer is:
For one it takes know the horse your selling a little better. I want someone to tell me straight up how he rides, what his quirks are does he tie, , farrier, trailer, clip, load. While being a little old lady from Pasadena who only rode her horse to church story works very well for a car for a car, when it comes to a horse that doesn't really tell Me how great he is out on trail/arena and what kinda of handle he has on him... You want all the details. Lightbulb moment here.
Can you tell I don't sell many horses?
This fella stands great for the farrier, and the vet.
He loads and trailers nicely. I don't know about clipping or tieing, don't have clippers, and no real place to tie here.
He does w/t/c, has a good stop.
Pretty laid back in the herd. Mike has gone out there and jumped on him bareback and he went off seat & leg.
I don't know it he has been in an arena before or not, but he has traveled many trails in Ill and Mo.

And yes, his former owner was a little old lady that he took carried on those trails. Wink

I've had my 14.1 hand b/w 4 year old for sale for a year.  She's had tons of training, would work well for any youth who knows how to ride (except on trails - she needs more miles there.)  I think because she was a 3 year old last year everyone thought that meant really green.  She has well over 100 rides on her and has done absolutely nothing wrong.  (Except on the trail - she really won't let the other horses leave her - she'll start crow hopping.)

I am going to bring her to the Sale barn in Springfield next month.  Wish me luck selling her because now that I bought the pony the other day, my husband is fretting about the extra horse.

Other than her, I too just have young ones - a deadbeat gorgeous pony foal (will mature to 14 hands if he's lucky) - he would make a great pony for a young child to grow up with because he is sooooo laid back.

And a coming 3 year old morab filly who has really been too small to start but I will teach her to drive this Spring.
